Introduction:
Hello and
welcome to my Youtube channel. My name is Joe and today I am going to show you an
upgraded version of my Home Karaoke System that will play Unlimited YouTube
Karaoke Music using a Smart TV and a Sound Bar with Optical Connections and
Wireless Microphones.

OK so, previously,
I published 2 videos about how to set-up a Karaoke System in your home that
will play Unlimited YouTube Karaoke Music. In those videos, you will hear the
benefits why I and so many other people do this type of set-up. Also, by watching
my previous videos, you will get the step-by-step instructions as to how to
connect the different gadgets. If you have not watched them yet, please check
on the links below to watch them.
Now the
previous videos showed you how to set-up 2 systems that use the old school Analog
Audio Connections namely, Auxiliary connectors and RCA connectors. The
challenge with those is the new electronic gadget nowadays especially the new
Smart TVs and Soundbars no longer come with Auxiliary or RCA connectors. Usually,
they only come with a Digital or Optical input/output. In fact, I received many
comments and questions from you asking how to set-up the system with only
Optical Connections. This video will answer those questions, so please continue
watching.
Also,
personally, this set-up that I am about to show you is also an upgrade of my own
Karaoke System at home because I will now be using Digital Connections as well
as wireless microphones.
In this
set-up, you will need less electronic gadgets. You will only need the following
items in order to come up with a High Quality Home Karaoke System that will
play Unlimited Youtube Karaoke Songs.
1.
Smart
TV – You need a Smart TV that has a YouTube app and can play a video directly
from YouTube. What I have here that I am using as a demo is a 2018 model of a
Samsung 75-inch Smart TV. In most cases, you can use any Smart TV that you already
have. The Smart TV must have an Optical Audio output that look like this.
2.
Sound
Bar or Any Digital Speaker System – You will need a sound bar that has an
Optical Audio input just like this one. Now, if you already have an existing
speaker or a surround sound system that can take in an Optical Input or signal,
that will work as well. In fact, in this video I will show you how to connect
both a Soundbar and a Surround Sound System. I will show you how I connected my
system to my existing Home Surround Sound that has 5 Bose in-ceiling Speakers
and a Subwoofer, all connected to my AV Receiver.
3.
Digital
Mixer – You will need a mixer that has Microphone inputs and one that has
Optical connectors. This is what I got recently from Amazon for $95. It already
comes with 2 wireless microphones. My old mixer only has Analog and HDMI inputs
but this one has Optical connectors. This is an upgrade for me because of the
improvement to the sound quality from Analog to Digital and I will now have
wireless microphones which allow me to sing pretty much anywhere in the house, in
the living room or in the kitchen.
4.
Microphone
– You can use any standard microphone that you have as long as it is compatible
with your mixer. In my case I am using
the ones that came with the Mixer.
The General Idea on how this Home
Karaoke System works:
The Smart TV
plays the video and at the same time sends the Karaoke Music Audio portion to
the mixer through the Optical Cable and Optical Connectors. The mixer also takes
the vocal input from the microphones, and then combines the Karaoke Music and the
vocal and sends that combined sound to the Sound Bar or Speakers, also through
the Optical Connectors. The Sound Bar/Speaker then plays the Karaoke Music and
your voice simultaneously with the lyrics on the Smart TV. Notice that in this
set-up, there is no need to have a Digital to Analog converter because I am
using a Digital/Optical signal all the way through.
Step-By-Step Set-up.
Now, I am
going to show you how to set-up these gadgets:
First, ensure
that all devices that you are trying to connect are turned off for safety
reasons.
Connecting the TV to the Mixer
1.
Take
the Optical Audio Cable and connect the one end to the Optical Audio output of
your TV.
2.
Take
the other end of the cable and connect it to the Optical Input of the mixer. So
now, you have connected the TV to the mixer.
3.
Using
another Optical Cable, take the one end of the cable and connect it to the Optical
output of the mixer.
4.
Then
connect the other end of the cable to the Sound Bar. Now, you do this step if
you are using a Soundbar. If you’d rather use a Surround Sound system that is
connected to an AV Receiver, you will simply to connect the other end of the
cable to the Optical Input of your AV Receiver. In my AV Receiver, this is how
it is done.
5.
At
this stage, your TV is now ready to send a Karaoke Music audio to the Sound bar
or Speakers.
Connecting the Microphone
6.
If
you are using wired microphones, simply connect the microphone to one of the
microphone slots of the mixer. In my case, I am using wireless microphones.
These microphones were already paired with the mixer out of the box so I didn’t
have to do anything.
Changing the Smart TV Audio Settings
Now, this karaoke
mixer and most karaoke mixers that I found out there only support PCM Audio
format. So I need to change the settings of the Smart TV so that it outputs the
audio in PCM format. This part is done differently depending on your TV model.
In this Samsung Smart TV that I have this is how I do it….
How to Test the System:
7.
Power
up all devices.
8.
Open
the YouTube App in your Smart TV.
9.
Search
for the Karaoke Song that you want to sing.
10. Play the song and there you go! The
video and lyrics show up in the TV. The Sound bar / Speakers play the Karaoke music
and my voice. Let’s try it:
Streaming from a Phone?
So that’s it,
guys!!! Now, if you have a Smart Phone, usually a Smart TV allows you to cast a
YouTube video from the Smart Phone to the Smart TV. So you can do that as well
so you can easily and conveniently use your YouTube app on your phone to search
and play Karaoke Songs. While this is not required, I find this method very
convenient and easy.
What if I Need Help?
Great. So I
want you to try this at your house. And, if you have a question or need any
help, put all of them in the comments below. I will try to respond as soon as
possible. I will help where I can and provide technical support for free. The
only thing I ask of you is you subscribe to my YouTube Channel. And when you
are having a Karaoke Party at home, sing the Karaoke Songs and Videos that I
have in my Mabuhay Karaoke YouTube Channel first before using any other
channels J
Enjoy and Happy Singing. Please do not forget to like and Subscribe and click that Notification bell.
